Waxworms have a high fat content and are an excellent choice for treats as well as to help put weight back on a sick animal or one who has recently lain eggs. Waxworms should not be used as a staple feeer due to their high fat content – overfeeding may result in health issues including obesity. Because waxworms are a smaller, soft bodied worm, most reptiles, arachnids and amphibians will accept them readily. Waxworms do not need to be fed and should be stored in a cool area. The will last approximatley 4 weeks if stored in the door of your fridge. A varied diet of appropriate feeders for your reptile is the best option to meet nutritional needs. It is recommended to gutload your feeders as well as “dust” them in any additional supplements your pet may require before feeding.
